Kuta Beach Safety

Kuta's waves are great for learning to surf but can produce strong rip currents. Swim only between the red-and-yellow flags where lifeguards are on duty, and avoid the water after heavy rain. During the wet season, roughly November to March, onshore winds wash debris onto the beach; it is cleared regularly but can spoil a morning swim.

Getting Around

Kuta is compact enough to explore on foot along the beach road and Poppies Lanes, and ride-hailing apps are easy to use. The airport is only 10 to 15 minutes away, which makes Kuta a convenient first or last night in Bali. Seminyak is a 20-minute drive north along the coast, or a long walk on the beach through Legian.
